Newsletter May 2024 - A smart perspective on mining technology
May is almost upon us. On The Intelligent Miner, that can only mean one thing: it’s the month when I loosen my self-imposed reigns and go full throttle on the topic of mining technology and equipment.
For a writer who cut their teeth producing thousands of words every month for trade magazines specifically on this theme, and who has done so for over 15 years, it would be very easy for me to write about this and not a lot else all year long. I’m a bit biased in that, it’s a subject I’m very comfortable covering, I know a fair amount about and have all the contacts for. However, when I set up this publication, I had to ask myself: would that be valuable to you? Answer: maybe, but you can get content of that nature elsewhere.
So, while I have a whole month of thought provoking, insightful articles planned for you – some weeks will even see two articles published rather than the usual one, though I may regret that decision later! – everything that I offer you during May will be about more than just technology. For example, there will be personal opinions and perspectives from industry leaders on the proliferation of autonomy, thoughts on the wider implications of using cutting-edge technologies like machine learning and Gen AI, ideas on where the industry is underinvesting in tech and what could provide the next step change in sustainability/productivity… You get the gist.
I’m also shaking up the types of content you’ll see this month – there are video interviews incoming and, as requested by many of you, you will now be able to listen to some of our most popular articles, read by me, while you take a walk, drive to work, eat lunch etc. I’ll flag those for you on social media as and when they’re available. In the meantime, enjoy this month’s reading list and I’ll see you soon.
Carly
